It's the year of the Rabbit! How's the ang pows collection for this year? Cap Goh Mei just ended a few days ago.. Did anyone throw oranges or bananas into the river in the hopes that fate would play its match-making skills with a possible other half? Jeez..does anyone still believe in that? Even with due consideration on the role of information technology and the blessed/cursed existence of Facebook??
I didn't know that Men would throw Bananas while Women throw Oranges. Did you guys know?? Haha.. I thought all this while that it was the women that would throw their oranges while the man fishes them out. Hrm hrm..So both gender throws and fishes too.. Maybe I should try just for the fun of it next year! =)
Well, for the 15th day of CNY, we ate a nice family dinner at the restaurant nearby dad's shop, the usual place. We brought our own raw materials! Well, seafood in exact. One huge fish from Sabah and some prawns too. The name of the fish in Cantonese language is "Chat Sing Pan" or Seven Star Kerapu fish (haha direct translation). That fish, weighing at 2.5 kg, is worth RM 500.00. And mind you, it's the price of the raw material only (RM200.00 per kg in KL). It's no wonder the flesh was so smooth, it was like I was eating fresh crab meat instead! Yummmmmmmie! (Check out the size of the fish and moms plate of rice. Haha.)

Dad says the prawn was the kind with nine stripes thus the expensive type. But all those was under the courtesy of our dearest Aunty Angeline, who was so nice to have arranged her friend, the King Crab supplier of Kudat, Sabah, Uncle Kong to pack some lavish seafood in a box to be transported to KL when we returned home. 10kg of seafoods altogether..!
Oh, btw, Kudat was nice! =) We had the most relaxing holiday, and we weren't racing with time at all. Perhaps there were times we had nothing to do but no complains la since there was Astro!!! =) Coupled with the diversity of the best of what Kudat's seafood has to offer, I'm proud to say that I have put on 2.5kg from the accumulated days we were there and have shed it since I returned. =) Hehe..it was weight worth putting on. =)
And yeah, check out the star dish we ate during our final dinner before we left Kudat on the second last day. This was fresh from the sea, and it tasted f***ing good! And the presentation was impressive it turned heads when it was served on the table! =) It was an unforgettable dish for sure. If the same dish was to be eaten in KL, it would cost a painful RM700.00. For that dish alone. Guess I'm a lucky girl.

And it was dinner with good company! Uncle Kong was just a pleasant person to talk to and to share some laughter with, and on that table itself, in which the dinner lasted for more than two hours, he shared with us some words of wisdom and reminded me of some simple things in life in which I have forgotten, which was nice and definitely uplifting. The people of Kudat are very simple people, and despite their simple living, I see that they find joy in what they do and are satisfied with all the blessings that was bestowed to them from above, not like us city people, blinded by the yardsticks of materialism that we forget the simplest things in life are the things that provide us with the most joy. You know, if only there were more people like my Aunty who has a heart of Gold and Uncle Kong who''s a fine, humble individual despite his successes, the world would definitely be a better place to live in.

This is the building of the school in which Aunty Angeline held a fund-raising event for in order to build it. She had tremendous support from all that knew her, and the total fund raised was up to RM 300,000. It's a very big sum of money, considering what a small town Kudat is. So with her joint efforts together with Uncle Kong and some other commitee members, she helped build this school. How many people in their lifetime, can actually say that "I have helped build that building so that the younger generations would be able to obtain the opportunity to study"?
And this is the land in which she bought several years back. Probably almost a decade or so ago. It was a land by the seaside. And guess what she did with it? She donated 2.5acres of the land to the parish so that the school could be build on that ground. OMGoooosh right??? A land by the seaside costs...... a lot. And she was so kind to give it to charity. Always willing to put others above self, that is a trait worth marveling at.

(A snapshot of the land she donated) Thanks to her, students who study in this school is able to get a wonderful view of the sea and hear the crashing waves as they study!
Perhaps you're thinking, this woman gave so much to charity, she must have been rich all her life. Well, it's not true. Once upon a time, she was very poor. My whole family was. Well during the time of her father's I mean. Even when she first started practicing as a Doctor, she had very little. But she earned patiently and people loved her for her personality so she had many people that came to her clinic. All the money that she has today was earned rightfully with her own hard work, blood and sweat. That's one of the most beautiful thing about her, that is despite all the hard earned effort, she still didn't forget her role to the society and does what she can. Takes a lot for a person to give that much with no obligations. Her character of being charitable was ingrained in her since her younger days. When she got her first salary, she donated it all to the church. That's one of her most gifted traits, kindness that shines from the heart. She was bestowed upon the title "Dato" too, but humbly declined it because she wanted to be known as Doctor more than any other title, because she was so passionate about what she has become. =) So she accepted the title A.S.D.K, a title below "Dato". It is her that I owe my life to as well. She's the reason I'm still alive and kicking. An hour of conversation with her and she shares with you ample words of wisdom. That's why she is my most favourite aunt.

There's more to her than this, and I'll write on that soon.
Welll I'm going to be posting more of the Sabah pics on FB! =)
